About North Bayshore, Mountain View
North Bayshore is the area of Mountain View north of Highway 101, stretching toward San Francisco Bay between roughly the Palo Alto border and Stevens Creek. For decades it has been primarily an office and research district, home to the headquarters of Google and a number of other technology companies. The area also includes Shoreline at Mountain View Park, the Shoreline Amphitheatre and miles of bayfront wetlands and trails. The city's North Bayshore Precise Plan now allows new residential neighborhoods, making it one of the most closely watched areas for future Mountain View real estate.
Moving to North Bayshore
Moving to North Bayshore is a different experience from moving to an established Mountain View neighborhood. Historically the district has had very little housing, so options have been limited and new homes are arriving gradually as approved projects move forward. The city's long-range plan envisions mixed-use neighborhoods with apartments, condominiums and townhomes near offices, shops and open space. Anyone considering a move here should review the status of specific projects, since timelines can shift with market conditions and approvals.
Cost of Living & Housing in North Bayshore
North Bayshore homes for sale are limited, and most housing in the area is expected to be newer multifamily construction rather than detached single-family homes. The city's plan calls for a mix of rental apartments, ownership condominiums and townhome-style homes, including a share of affordable units. As projects are completed, buyers should expect modern floor plans, shared amenities and higher-density building forms. Because the district is still evolving, reviewing HOA details, construction timelines and nearby planned development is especially important here.
Getting Around North Bayshore
Getting around North Bayshore centers on Shoreline Boulevard, Rengstorff Avenue and San Antonio Road, which connect the district to Highway 101. Employer shuttles and the city's MVgo shuttle service link the area to the Mountain View transit center, where Caltrain and VTA light rail stop. The Stevens Creek Trail, Permanente Creek Trail and San Francisco Bay Trail make biking and walking practical for many daily trips. Traffic on the 101 interchanges can be heavy at peak hours, so many commuters rely on bikes and shuttles.
Local Amenities & Things to Do in North Bayshore
Shoreline at Mountain View Park is the district's signature open space, with Shoreline Lake, a boathouse, the Shoreline Golf Links, wetlands and the historic Rengstorff House. Shoreline Amphitheatre hosts major concerts throughout the warmer months. The Computer History Museum on Shoreline Boulevard is a short trip from much of the area and makes a popular stop for visitors. Downtown Mountain View's restaurants and shops on Castro Street are just a few minutes south across Highway 101.
Schools & Education in North Bayshore
North Bayshore falls within the Mountain View Whisman School District for elementary and middle grades and the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District for high school. Because the area has historically had little housing, there are currently no public schools located within the district itself. As new homes are built, school assignments for specific addresses will be set by each district. Confirm current school boundaries for any North Bayshore address directly with the Mountain View Whisman and Mountain View-Los Altos districts.
Why Buyers Choose North Bayshore
Buyers choose North Bayshore for the chance to live close to major tech employers, bayfront parks and miles of trails. As new residential projects come online, the district offers newer construction and modern amenities that are rare in Mountain View's established neighborhoods. It is a fit for buyers who want to be near work and open space in a district that is still taking shape.
