About Cuernavaca, Mountain View

Cuernavaca is a planned residential community in the southeast corner of Mountain View, located off Crestview Drive near the Sunnyvale border and about a block from El Camino Real. Built in phases and completed around 1989, it covers roughly 30 acres with about 170 homes. The site was once orchard land and later a small golf course before the community was developed. A main loop road and several cul-de-sacs give Cuernavaca a self-contained, park-like layout.

Moving to Cuernavaca

Moving to Cuernavaca means joining a homeowners association that manages the shared grounds, landscaping and recreational amenities. Residents have access to a pool, spa, clubhouse, exercise room, tennis courts, playground and landscaped greenbelts with palm trees. Two entrances and a series of interior cul-de-sacs keep through traffic low and give the streets a calm, tucked-away feel. Grocery stores, restaurants and services along El Camino Real and Grant Road are within a short walk or drive, which makes day-to-day errands simple.

Cost of Living & Housing in Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca homes for sale fall in the mid-to-upper range of the Mountain View market, and HOA dues should be part of any buyer's budget. The community includes both detached homes and attached residences, built in a consistent Spanish and Mediterranean style with stucco walls and tile roofs. Homes generally range from about 1,500 to 2,500 square feet, with a variety of floor plans. Because the development dates to the late 1980s, many homes offer more modern layouts than older Mountain View neighborhoods.

Getting Around Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca is a strong location for commuters who head south or toward the hills. Highway 85 is just nearby and connects to Interstate 280, Cupertino and San Jose, while El Camino Real provides a direct route through the Peninsula. VTA buses run along El Camino Real toward Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Downtown Mountain View, with Caltrain and VTA light rail at the Mountain View Transit Center, is a short drive north.

Local Amenities & Things to Do in Cuernavaca

Much of the recreation in Cuernavaca happens inside the community, from the pool and spa to the tennis courts and greenbelt paths. Just outside, Grant Park Plaza and nearby centers offer specialty grocery stores, restaurants and everyday services. Cuesta Park, with tennis courts, picnic areas and open lawns, is a short drive west. Downtown Mountain View's Castro Street and the shopping in neighboring Sunnyvale add more dining and entertainment options.

Schools & Education in Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca homes are within the Mountain View Whisman School District for elementary and middle school grades. Homes are commonly served by Huff Elementary and Graham Middle School, both located in Mountain View a short drive from the community. High school students are generally assigned to Mountain View High on Truman Avenue in the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District. Assignments can vary by address and over time, so confirm school boundaries for any specific home with the district.

Why Buyers Choose Cuernavaca

Buyers choose Cuernavaca for its planned-community setting, shared amenities and newer construction compared with many Mountain View neighborhoods. The pool, tennis courts and greenbelts offer resort-style features without the upkeep of a large private yard. Quick access to Highway 85 and El Camino Real keeps commutes and errands convenient.
