About Country Club, Los Altos

Country Club is a wooded foothill neighborhood in south Los Altos, generally bounded by Magdalena Avenue, Foothill Expressway, Permanente Creek and Interstate 280. It takes its name from the Los Altos Golf & Country Club, a private club whose 18-hole course sits at the heart of the area. Much of the neighborhood lies in unincorporated Santa Clara County, within the Loyola census-designated place, while still carrying a Los Altos mailing address. The name Loyola traces back to an early 1900s plan for a university here that was never built.

Moving to Country Club

Moving to Country Club means trading a city grid for winding lanes, mature oaks and a quieter, semi-rural setting close to the hills. Because much of the area is unincorporated, services such as law enforcement and many building permits are handled by Santa Clara County rather than the City of Los Altos. Buyers should review county zoning, setback and permit rules early if they plan to remodel or rebuild. Downtown Los Altos, Loyola Corners and Rancho San Antonio are all a short drive away, which makes the neighborhood practical as well as private.

Cost of Living & Housing in Country Club

Country Club homes for sale are positioned in the upper tier of the Los Altos real estate market, reflecting generous lots and the foothill setting. Lots commonly range from roughly a quarter acre to an acre, and many sit on gently rolling terrain with mature trees. The housing mix includes original ranch homes from the 1940s and 1950s, updated mid-century houses and a steady pipeline of new custom construction. Many buyers purchase with an eye toward a future rebuild, so lot size, slope and county rules strongly shape value.

Getting Around Country Club

Country Club offers some of the most direct freeway access in Los Altos, with Interstate 280 reachable via the Magdalena Avenue and Foothill Expressway interchanges. Foothill Expressway links the neighborhood north toward Palo Alto and Stanford and south toward Cupertino and Sunnyvale. Highway 85 is a short drive away for trips toward San Jose or Mountain View. Caltrain stations in Mountain View are the closest rail option for commuters heading up the Peninsula or into San Francisco.

Local Amenities & Things to Do in Country Club

The Los Altos Golf & Country Club is the neighborhood's best-known landmark, offering golf, tennis and dining for its members. Rancho San Antonio Preserve, just to the south, is one of the most popular trail systems on the Peninsula for hiking, running and spotting wildlife. Everyday errands are easy at the Loyola Corners shops and cafes along Foothill Expressway, and the Woodland Branch Library sits nearby on Grant Road. Downtown Los Altos adds restaurants, boutiques and seasonal events within about a ten-minute drive.

Schools & Education in Country Club

Country Club is served by the Los Altos School District for kindergarten through eighth grade and the Mountain View–Los Altos Union High School District for grades nine through twelve. Homes are commonly assigned to Loyola Elementary School, Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School and Mountain View High School. Both districts are well regarded for their academic programs and are a major reason buyers look in this part of Los Altos. Assignments can vary by street and over time, so confirm school boundaries for any specific address with each district.

Why Buyers Choose Country Club

Buyers choose Country Club for large, tree-filled lots, foothill privacy and the chance to build or own a custom home in Los Altos. The neighborhood combines a semi-rural feel with quick access to I-280, Foothill Expressway and the major tech campuses of Silicon Valley. Close proximity to Rancho San Antonio and the golf club adds an outdoor lifestyle few nearby neighborhoods can match.
